Have you inquired at local churches? That might be a good place to start. Or they could at least help point you in the right direction.
If your husband is out of work right now, you may well be able to qualify for things such as fuel assistance at this time of the year. And perhaps, that might leave you a little something more to put toward the rent.

Also try Catholic Social Services and Lutheran Social Services. They are known to help with housing payment shortages.
