1040 or 1040A or other for F1 student with 1042-S
I am a F-1 student from China. Since I have stayed here for more than 5 years, I have to file as resident alien.

    I received both W-2 and 1042-S. On 1042-S,
Income code:19 (compensation during studying and training)
    Gross income:5000
    Tax rate: 00.00
Exempt code: 04 (exempt under tax treaty)

    My questions:

    1. which form I should use, 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ?

    2. where should I fill the numbers? If I add up 5000 with the amount in W-2 form, this 5000 becomes taxable. Which line should I delete this 5000 from total taxable?

    3. Can I get the $400 Making Work Pay Credit?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. You should do Form 1040.
    2. Yes, add on line 7. It is taxable income. If you are eligible for treaty deduction, then deduct as other income and write "China & U.S. treaty deduction article...."
    3. Yes, complete schedule M. Your U.S. Tax Return: What's New for 2009
