Why does my laptop browser say I have visited a pornographic site when I haven't
Our family laptop shows yesterday that I have visited a porn site.. I had explained to my partner that I have been on a tempremental website called ovg (online video guide) but this site is renoun for throwing spam and allsorts onto the pc's.
I now ask if this site if any at all could show up in my browsing history that I had visited any sites that I haven't. a reasonable and rational explanation would be appreciated, I am aware of malware and virus software, we have a free trial with norton virus software I believe, and the pop up blocker is on. Anything else that needs checking I would need guidance. Can you email my partner with results.. >e-mail removed<

Antivirus software is only effective if the virus signatures are kept up to date with a subscription. If you suspect malware, Malwarebytes Antimalware and TrendMicro's Housecall online scanner products are both free for personal use and when used in sequence detect the majority of malware. Another possibility as you suspect is that the sites you visited may have been either intentionally or by being themselves compromised serving up malware, popup ads, or linking to other sites that may have been porn, all of which would be shown in the history even if you didn't manually navigate to these sites yourself. Generally, any site that starts throwing up a bevy of popups or other windows is bad news for you and the computer.
