My exboyfriend and I broke up 2 years ago in dec 2007. We lived together for 8months and when we moved in together it was under the agreement that we would split the living costs. Around the same time he bought a new car. Now the way it ended up was that I paid his share of the rent twice and paid pretty much all of the bills. When it got close to the break up I asked him to sign a letter to say he would pay me the almost £700 back that the total bills came to. The agreement said £100 a month. I then post breakup moved to germany where my family live and never received the money.When I spoke to him I was told I would get 50 pound. This then reduced to 20 pound but nothing ever came of it. I left it because I had enough problems at the time such a trying to find employment in the uk so I could come back and now that I am settled again (its been a rough 2 years) I would like to pursue it again. We haven't spoken in about 2 years (he cheated on me with his now fiance) but I'm not sure how to pursue this.
Because of the hours I work I am unableto get to the Citizens advice place.

Are you presently in different Countries (which is how I read this)?

Concerning collecting - you would have to sue because he broke an oral agreement. The Judge would listen to both sides and determine which story is more believable.

But you have a problem getting jurisdiction if you are in different Countries.

JEK, as I read it she is back in the UK.

At any rate, it isn't a jurisdicitonal problem to sue him in the UK, but a question of logistics.

My situation is quite common I think, however, I have no idea what can I do about this, so need your professional expertise, please.


I broke up with my 2 years pakistani ex boyfriend in April 2013, after he made 18 years old girl pregnant and asked me to help to get rid of her unborn, because her mom was insisting on their marriage, first I got back with him as I knew him for about 8 years then he start blaming on me when having a drink that he won't be a daddy this year, up to now he wants us to be together but I don't see any future anymore. During our relationship, there was no money issues, if we go out he would always pay for everything like cinema, eating out, but to book or organize something it was always on me, or even gifts.. since we start live together in his family house with his parents and sisters and brother and his family, he would ask me to pay for something small from my card, as he has said he lost his, then it was in overdraft, then he could not use it as he has bad credit history (as everyone in his family too), but usually he would give me money back in cash,(he would ask now and then for 100-300, if he needed cash he could sometimes check my bag for money first to make sure I have it, even if its cash that he just give me back from the transaction where I would pay for his drivers insurances, he runs cab office) when he gives me some part of it back, then usually take for some or other reason to get his sigs, wash or repair one of drivers cars and so on.. but always leave me some cash to shop in supermarket, or for manicure. Then in August 2012 he has persuaded me to sell my car in order to cover his office rent, through the garage he knew (I have contract of that sale officially 14.500), part of the money in cash they would give him straight into his hands, the other part 6.500 as bank transfer on my bank account, from which I've made a transfer to pay to his landlord to cover his office rent, at that moment I was helping and working in his office, they have family-run cab office. I have got hand written and signed by him contract, that states that he will give me all the money by the end of the 2012 year, first every week by 500 and the rest in lump sum at the end of olympic games season, as he was waiting for big payment, plus he promised to give it back with percentages, however by today he still owns me the full amount, and would give me back only what he offered on a top and only after long chasing through one of his sister (I have insisted on bank transfer from her), also I have text messages from him where he mentions the amount and other evidence (with texts to give it 'tomorrow' numerous times, or refers to the lack of money, to ask his parents, sisters, that his driver is dropping it to me later), at the same time tried to cause me other harm of non physical nature. I have agreed for him to transfer me small amounts of money and was in touch with his mom who would tell me that he will give it all to me, but very slowly,( from 2nd Aug 2012 it was over a year!) now they just ignoring my calls or texts, I do not mean to cause any harm for him or his business as he is supporting his big family, and in April opened fast food place, so the new business needs some investing, I guess. I know that I was very naïve to trust him but at that time I just genuinely wanted to help my boyfriend.. When I left him I had no place to go, no job, little money on me, after he tried to turn my friends and family against me, so overall it's been eyeopening experience, therefore I feel that if I can do something about it I would like to know what exactly!
