Were you convicted or was it dismissed, how did you get it dismissed two years latter, was it a plea deal?
If you were actually convicted of a domestic voilence crime, you can not carry a gun, and thus can not be a correctional officer.
If you were convicted of a felony you can not be.
OK I plead no contest cause what happened that night was a mistake and my fault to an extent and two years later it was dismissed because I did not get arrested again. Now according to the laws of New York and federal I can own a hand gun as long as it was dismissed and the military looked in to my charge and gave me a waiver for the charge and let me back in after the federal background check. As for the felony thing it was a misterminer. I am hopeing that if they see that I have made changes in my life such as going back to the military and joining the volunteer firefights that it is possible I don't have to be in the active military for the rest of my life to make a living

As long as it was dismissed, ( the military wavier does not apply)
But if it was dismissed, why did you need a waiver for something you were not convicted of )
If it was really dismissed then you should be able to.
Well to join the military you need to disclose everything and I did and I was told I needed a wavier in other words I shut my mouth and did what I was told... I pray that everything will work out cause it was dimissed otherwise it looks like 16 more years of military service thanks for the info I feel a lot better...
And while it sounds silly, check about being a Federal Correctional Officer, in NY they get paid less than the state officers ( or at least it was that way some years ago)
And as long as there is no issue with possession of a gun, many will offer vaivers for minor issues also
Fr chuck you are wrong about the pay of NYC Corrections.. their base pay is 76,000 compared to the states 40,000 and the Feds 45,000..
If your record is clean you should be able to get a disposition from the courts that will explain everything instead of guessing.
