I have a 86 chevy nova 1.6 liter engine, automatic trans, that idles very rough only when it is in gear. Other than that runs fine at all other speeds/rpms.

Most likely engine mounts have gone bad. The rubber gets very hard and the ones on the transaxle split and collapse.
