    j2 visa taxes married
    Hi

I'm in the U.S about 1.5 years. Until October 2009 I was under J2 visa and had an EAD card (from October 2008). I started to work on March 2009, when the first 6 month I was in training period and my salary was lower. On the W4 form I declared that I'm married. My questions are: During 2009, did I consider as a trainee? Can I fill tax form as a residant? Can I fill the tax form as a married person? Can I fill a join tax form with my wife (which is a gratuate student and hold J1 visa)?

    Thanks

    Omer

On J1 and J2 you are nonresident for two years. If you entered the U.S. in 2008, both of you will file separate tax returns as nonresident and Form 8843.
