    Itching puppy
I also have a puppy that itches all the time. I also took her to the vet. He gave me spectial shampoo and said to give her children's Benadryl (sp). I did both and they did nothing at all. I took her back and he said it could be her anal glands needed to be emptied. He said it was unusual for a puppy to have the glands full. Well they were. He cleaned them out--she is still itching. I am going to take her back and check on the ear mites. I feel so sorry for her. If that doesn't do it, I don't know what else to do.

How old is she and what breed(s)? Some breeds are more prone to skin problems than others.

    How is she acting 'itchy'?

She was born last Thanksgiving. She is part Jack Russell and part dachshund. Sometimes she will just yip and start scratching different places.

You could ask your vet about adding some essential oils, I know some people use sardines, I like the Omega oils, they are about $15 for a larger bottle at your local vet office. Has there been a change in diet? Does she chew on her paws? Is she scratching her ribs? You have checked and treated for fleas right?

Her skin is fine and there are not critters living on her skin as far as we can see. I am going to the vet again tomorrow and will see about the ear mites. I will ask about adding oils to her food also. Thanks

Unfortunately itching can be due to many different things.
Obvious signs are dry skin and fleas but if the skin looks good and there are no fleas then you will need a vet to confirm what is causing it.
Allergies are another common cause but hard to diagnose yourself.

What food are you feeding at the moment?

    I am feeding Innova.

Hmm, well innova certainly is a good brand.
I was hoping you were going to say something nasty like pedigree then I could put the itching down to a food allergy.

Where exactly is she scratching? That's why I was asking if she was chewing her paws or scratching ather snout or ribs. Omega oils are great for much more then just dry skin. Aww poor little itchy puppy!

It could still be a food allergy.

She could be allergic to environmental elements also.

Very possible it could be the first stages of mange.

I think if a dog has yeast in the ears, it'll cause them to itch... around the ear area.

Is the pup dandruffy? Typically dry skin is scaley

Is there more than usual hair loss?

You should get a skin scrapping done. If she has any type of mites, they'll show up in the sample
