    Federal taxes/resident
I lived in Maine ofr part of the year and then moved to North Carolina that latter part of the year. North carolina is now my permanent residents. Do I need to put both of these on my taxes and if so how should they be Maine part time and North Carolina resident?

You will file part-year resident returns with both ME and NC for 2009. Both forms require you to report your full year's income, but you allocate income to each state based on where you were living when you received it. Each state than taxes you on the percentage of income you received while living in that state. Result is that you don't pay taxes to two states on the same income, but your tax rate for each is determined by your total income. Then starting for tax year 2010 you will file only a NC full-year resident return. Hope this helps!
