What to do when you are unemployed and cannot pay child support and behind
I have a friend who is living in Florida and cannot pay his child support. He has fallen on hard times, is $20K behind, and cannot pay as he does not have a job but is actively looking for one in Florida. He does not have the money to obtain an atty but also cannot quality for legal aid because he owns a home. What are his options? His ex is threatening jail time.

He can ( and should have as soon as he lost his income) he files a motion to have the support reconsidered due to lost of income.

Do you mean modified? Can they suspend this until he is employed?

The courts can make a drastic reduction on a temporary basis. He doesn't need a lawyer to file for it and if he is paying through the state then they should set it up for him.
