I have never really been in my son's life but have paid child support ever since I found out about him. She is now married and her husband has contacted me about adopting. I have no problem with that but they want me to pay for it and to use their lawyer. That isn't going to happen. Does anyone know if I will still have to pay child support if I start this.

It all depends. Some states/judges will allow you to stop paying support; others will still hold you accountable.

To be safe, I would hire your own attorney to represent your best interests.

If the adoption goes through then you will no longer be required to pay child support. The only thing you would be liable to pay would be arrears. Was your child support through the courts or was this just an amount you both agreed upon?

Through child support court. I live in Oklahoma. What are arrears?

Arrears are unpaid child support that was owed by a court order and not paid.
