I'm starting on a remodel and for my shower/wet area. I want to put the shower control valve on one wall and the spout on another. There will be a couple of bends in this run and will extend approximately 6 or so feet from the valve. Is there any problem in doing this or anything I should be aware of?

Also I want to add a hand shower in addition to the fixed spout. Is there any difference in quality putting a simple diverter on the spout vs. running a separate line from the main shower valve?

First you have to decide what kind of system you will use. You have 2 options with spout and shower: You can use diverter spout or you can you separate diverter valve installed someplace on the wall. There is not really big difference between installing those two - but I would recommend diverter valve.

As far as running 6' of 1/2" pipe for the spout should not present any problem. Only thing I can think of is that when you close water it will take longer for the water to drip out. This may be annoying.

So the diverter valve would go on the run between the spout and the main shower handle? Just out of curiosity could I get a handle that is made for a shower/tub and use the tub outlet to run a line to a hand shower? That way all controls would be on the handle. Just a thought.

Good thinking: yes, you can get 3-handle faucet and use the middle handle the way you described - instead of installing 1 handle (or 2 handle) unit with diverter spout.

If you use separate diverter that you use only 1 outlet on the rough body and you plug the other one. Manufacturers usually recommend to plug the bottom and use the upper outlet.
