Hot water at tub but not at sink
    Hello,

My neighbor changed his water heater and has been having issues ever since. He gets very hot water to the tub and the washing machine. The kitchen and bathroom sinks only receive luke warm water if that. Now, if I open the tub or washer hot water, the sinks do receive hot water. Also, even though the tub has hot water, when you open the shower head the hot water slowly cools off. I have disconnected the kitchen faucet and get a good water flow but it is cold. I do not understand why it only gets hot water when the tub or washer is open. Please advise.

Sounds like a crossconnection was made when the water heater was installed. Was anything else changed such as a faucet? Go back and check your work. Good luck, Tom

Try closing one of the washing machine faucets in the wall box. Then try and see if the water get hot in the shower and all other places.

If this make it work right you will need a new water valve in the washing machine, or it is possible that you might take the water valve off the machine and wash it out.

Let me know if this was the problem please.

The answer from letmetellu solved the problem. I don't understand how it did, however! Can you tell me how and why? Thanks.

    Hi guys!

First, lrobert piggybacked onto a post from sholly13 and it seems letmetellu's suggestion temporarily resolved the issue.

Secondly, I'm thinking the issue would be at the washing machine solonoid valve (see image) inside the washing machine where that cross connection Tom mentioned can occur whether lrobert has single hot and cold shutoffs or the single lever shutoff valve.

In this case, the washing machine solonoid valve would need to be replaced. As Letmetellu also suggested, lrobert could try to clean it if he wants to try, but the washing machine solonoid valve is pretty cheap so I would just replace that!

    Good day!

    Mark,

Thanks. I think you nailed the problem especially since I have individual hot and cold shutoffs rather than a single lever shutoff.
