I have an 1979 SJC ( Tappan ) intermittent ignition power vent furnace which will not light the pilot.

The inducer motor runs when the thermostat calls for heat, and I have 24 V at the R & W terminals on the transformer, but nothing at the gas valve.

What should I check?

Does you furnace have a free standing pilot or is it lit by a hot survice ignitor or maybe by a spark ignitor.

It does not have a standing pilot, it uses an intermittent spark, like an automobile spark plug.
