    Hi Jedster...

    You want the closet ring to sit directly on top of the finished floor. See image...

    Thanks Mark, I received the same info from others. I was hoping to see how much play I had but it looks like I have to lower the closet ring... Oh boy... and it's cast iron!

    Not as big a job as you might think.
    Certainly not as much hassle as a PVC or ABS connection.
    How high off the floor line is the flange? To lower a cast iron flange take a 2 X 4 block and tap around the flang next to the pipe until it's at floor level. Now take a crescent wrench and set the jaws over the cast iron pipe and taking small bites start to "nibble" the pipe down.
    You will also have to recaulk the lead joint. Do this with a screwdriver on both the inside and outside of the lead joint. Good luck, Tom
