First you laugh at the fool and tell them they never have to see the child, just be sure not to be late with their child support.

If you would have read the sticky at in the legal forum ( plus it needed to be posted there and I have moved it)

Or if you wold have read one of the 1000's of posts you would see he can not merely "sign over his rights"
So you file for child suport and make him pay, plus you stop listening to anything he says

Its not clear whether you are seeking legal advice or just want to know how to tell your child about his father.

Chuck is right, he can't just sign over his rights. You DO need to go to court for custody and support.

But when your son is old enough you tell him that you made a mistake and got involved with a jerk. That he's a great kid and his father is missing out on how great his is.

I am sorry , I did assume you wanted legal advice, if you did not, please merely repost in the parenting section,
