I have been married for almost 5 yrs. We all then moved from New York to charlotte, nc.. I want to adopt 2 of the children, a 9 yr old girl and 17 yrs old boy.. Their birth father is not in the picture, does not send child support or any other support. Very little contact due to him stating he is living in a shelter in New York and not able to assist.. I want to know how to go about adopting them and giving them our last name?

You have to go though court, you will hire an attorney who will contact the bio father, he will have to sign over his rights to allow the adoption to take place. Then the adoption paper work is filed with the court, and it goes farily smooth thought the system.
