Perhaps now the Afghanistan chapter can be closed with honour

He was a Scoop Jackson Democrat. He came from a time when you could still be a democrat and a cold warrior.

The problem wasn't that we helped the mujahideen in Afghanistan. The problem was there was no follow-up when the Soviets retreated . This was despite Wilson's efforts to get Congress to commit to funding for the new free nation.

Other than being a cold warrior and being on the right side of that issue; there is little else to say about Wilson that is faltering .

Tom I don't want to say anything about the guy except he obviously knew how to stay the course and use the people on the ground to get the job done. It is a great pity that others didn't follow the example and fix this Afghan thing once and for all
