I live in a 2nd floor condo. The bathtub has recently started to creak when I step into it. I've been here almost 10 years, and the tub was here before me. I believe it is iron. I don't know what kind of support is under it, but the floors here are poured concrete. So what could be causing my tub to creak?

Your tub creaks because it wasn't bedded properly when it was installed. Can you open up the tub access panel in front of the tub? Regards, Tom

There's no access panel. There is an AC/water heater closet on the other side of the wall. I guess the drywall could be knocked out to access the pipes. I had a plumber come here the other day and he didn't seem too concerned. He said it is not really a problem. I don't know if I should believe that answer. He also told me that the only way to fix it is to completely remove the tub and reset it, and that the only way to disconnect the drain is to take out the ceiling in the bathroom of the apartment below me!! This can't be true?? Certainly it has to be possible to remove/install tub without ruining the downstairs neighbor's ceiling?

The tub should have been bedded at installation. However, if there are no leaks I wouldn't let it bother me too much. It sounds like a steel tub, (cast iron tubs don't creak), some steel tubs have a front apron that's removable. If we have to service the tub we simply remove the molding on the floor and pull the apron. Good luck, Tom
