    Hi,

I have a satellite internet connection and I wanted to go wireless so that I could use the internet throughout the house. I went to the store to buy a wireless router but the salesperson sold me a wireless access point and told me it will work and is just the same as a wireless router. I went home followed the instructions and it does not work. I do not have a network at home all I have is an internet connection through satellite. My question is can I get the wireless access point to work if I only have an internet connection or should I take it back and get I wireless router. My operating system is Windows Vista Basic.

    Thank you for the help

It really depends on your modem. An access point does not have the ability to assign IP numbers, its kind of like a switch in the wired world. If there is a router placed behind it, and the AP has the correct gateway info and such, it will out perform a wireless router any day, but if you just have a DSL modem or something that only allows one connection without a router, it wouldn't work.

    Good Luck
