Hi,
Can I ground myself, put on surgical gloves and then safely work on a PC or is it necessary to use a mat and wrist band?
Thanks.

Honestly, I deal with hardware all day long and I ground myself on the plugged in power supply.
I don't worry about anti-static mats, etc.
I risk it a little bit. I just touch a faucet to get rid of any static electricity and I don't really do much else. I almost always have a hand on the case though.
From what I've been told, it's best to use an anti-static wrist band. They're pretty cheap too. So if you don't want to risk your hardware, that's what I'd do. But I have yet to damage a component from static.
