Im not sure how you feel about it but I have never named an animal before I received it. I kind of try to match the name to the personality.
Hi, HotPotato2009!
How about Hammy? That would be kind of generic and work for either gender.
Thanks!
Fluffy, Hammy, Hamtaro, Smallfry, Sweetpea, Chicklet, Bob.
There are so many. It's best to see the hamster first, watch him/her. I think a name will come to you, that's how it usually works. :)
Congrats on the hamster, we'd love to see pictures. :)
Hehe my hampsters name was Fudge, and then changed to Pudge, and he had babies... and then his name changed to Prudence and we started calling him a her.
Lol.
I have always been partial to Mr. Wigglebottom.
Thanks you guys :-)
I guess watching the hampster might give me a better thought of what to name him or her.
@ Altenweg - I don't know how to upload pics to this site :-(
Click on go advanced, and then click on the paper clip thing, and then another screen pops up and you can upload the pics, much like Facebook.
Oh OK. Thanks Aurora :-)
Well you guys, I wasn't able to get my hampster :-( my ride cancelled at the last minute, so Ima have to wait. It may be within the next month.
Are those ideas of names that you are giving me jmjoseph?? Lol
How about Hampalater
My kids always named the hamsters so we had Fluffy, Chicklet and SweetPea. Chicklet should have been name Houdini, that little stinker escaped every night and every time we checked the doors to her cage weren't even open.
I have no idea how she did it. She loved to be loose, which is not a good idea in a house with three dogs. She would find her hiding space and then come back to her cage the next morning.
I miss that little hammy, she was one of a kind. :)
Names for Pet Hamsters
This will give you a list of a bunch of names. :)
@ ohsohappy - thanks :-)
@ Altenweg - thanks :-)
Hey you guys! Finally got my hampster. I got him last Friday. My brother had a hampster that had babies so I got one of those. They are fancy hampsters.
Still haven't thought of a name for him though. I was thinking of Puffen (cause he getting big) and then I was thinking Mocha. Which do you guys like the most? Hes a boy. Puffen or Mocha? For right now, I've just been calling him baby lol.
Now, he is also still a little jumpy and nervous. He has started to eat treats out of my hand! But he runs all crazy when I go to pick him up and he still jumps if I accidentally bump the cage.
The first time I picked him up to put him in his exercise ball he peed! I picked him up this morning, he didn't pee, but he was still very scared. I had him for a week. Do you guys think he will soon get out of that scared stage? I don't want to give up on him.
Just keep working with him every day.
Hamsters don't actually like to be held, they just tolerate it, some better then others.
At this young age he's still got plenty of time to learn to trust you and to learn to tolerate the times when you hold him.
You have to work with him every day, and go slowly. With our hamsters we'd take them out of the cage, form a little ring with our feet (sit on the floor, legs spread, feet touching) and put the hammy in the middle. He couldn't get over our legs easily, so he was forced to stay in our ring. We'd have treats and he was free to roam, decide if he wanted to come closer.
With our second hammy it took 2 days for her to trust us enough to come eat out of our hands, to climb up on our legs, to actually accept being held. Our third hammy took weeks. He was a skittish little thing, but we worked on it every day and even though it took time, he ended up accepting it in the end.
Slow and steady, that's the ticket. :)
I like the name Mocha. Can you get a picture and post it? I know it's hard to get hammy pictures, but we'd love to see him. :)
If you're very kind and gentle to him, I'm sure that it won't be long until he grows very accustomed to the way that he's treated. In short, he'll be less likely to be jumpy and nervous.
Thanks you guys :-) I guess him eating out of my hand is a start because he wasn't doing that at first.
@ Altenwag - We use to do that ring thing with our feets in elementary school when we had a class pet lol. But with it just being me (my fiancé doesn't really get down with hampsters) its going to be kind of hard to do that.
I like Puffin, reminds me of Hugh Heffner! Lol.
