I am renovating the 2nd floor of my 1924 cape. The floor joists ( 1st floor ceiling joists ) were butt to each other instead of lapped and in a couple spots have separated a little. My first choice would be try to pull them back together a little, but I am afraid that it will crack the plaster on the first floor or should I strap them to stabilize, so that they don't separate any further?
