Is the sound coming from the automatic transmission? Be sure to change the fluid at least as frequently as recommended.

Have someone race the engine, while you look beneath the car. Then, place car on jack stands and check exhaust connections.

The sound you describe sounds to me like the serpentine drive belt tensioner.
It sounds like a fluttering noise on initial take off and when accelerating. The damper gets weak and you can see oil leakage around it.
It will need replacing along with a new belt.
