    Joining granite slab to carpet.
I am installing a granite slab in front of our fireplace in our living room which is carpeted. The granite is 3cm and the existing carpet has padding. I need some advice on joining the carpet to the granite smoothly.

    Welcome jharrielson

Is carpet installed with tackless tack strips or a flop? A flop is carpet that is not held down.

If carpet is tackless installation, fold back carpet and padding.

Install tackless around granite slab the same distant from slab as it is from wall. About to size of the tip of index finger.

Fold down padding and staple to floor. Cut padding to inside edge of tackless.

Fold down carpet and stretch carpet onto tackless using a carpet kicker.

Cut carpet about 1/8 inch longer then edge of granite. Tuck carpet in between tackless and granite.

This will give a very clean look.

    Good luck

    Chuck
