I don't know if wearing an abaya would matter much aside from the fire hazard issue, although that alone may be a deterent. If it was not too voluminous it would probably work.

I have seen some programs aired on a Dubai channel where the women presenters are in hijab and they do cook during the show.
Their abayas are not voluminous,but not tight either.

Did you mean to ask about the Islamic view point? Or did you wish to know if a muslim in abaya will be hired for such a show?
