The washer will wash correctly, agitate and then drain but will not begin the spin cycle properly. I have changed out the dog ears (egrots) which were worn but this didn't clear up the problem. If I defeat the cover switch and give the tub a push it will begin spinning. I would appreciate any suggestions especially how to open the top to inspect the cover switch. I would like to look at the switch mechanism first as removing the back panel looks to be much more difficult.

THOMAS_hildreth- ON the kenmore washer the top will come up easy by using a small common screwdriver, by pushing it in the crack in between the actual top and the bottom section of the washer, it is held down by spring type clips; just push screwdrive in and lift with it to raise the top and release the springs, then you can get to the lid switch very easy,NOTE- if after you check out the switch and find it OK,the next step will be to check out the soleniods under the washtub, there are two of them ,one controls the [agiatateand one for the spin;; you will need a VOLT OHM meter to check them out, if you don't have one you can get one at Lowe's<homedepot in the electrical dept. for less then $18.00 ; when you are ready to start -#1- turn te power off to the washer disconnect the water hoses ,lay the washer down on its front side and them you should be able to get to the soldenoids near the motor;NOTE- on some washers the solenoids are internal on the motor;; if yours is not #2-then get the volt-ohm meter and set it to the [RX100 Scale],#2a- remove a lead [wire] from one of the wire terminals and hook the meter probes toboth terminals,[#3a] The meter shouldread 250 to 1,000 ohms- the solenoid is good but if the meter reads higher then it is defective-[replace],it is highly recommended that both solenoids are replaced at the same time:: I hope that I have helped you with youer problem, Let me know:: PS- to test the lid switch with the VOLT_OHM meter set it to the RX1 scale , loosen the switch mounting screws reach
The spray shield and adjust the position of the switch and msake sure that it is not only out of adjustment; then retighten the screws and set the meter to rx1,disconnect the wire leads and clip the meter probes to the terminals ,close the lid,IF the meter reads{ZERO}ohms, the switch is good; if it reads high-replace,it is defective;; remember to replace all the wires you removed;; Have a great day and GOD BLESS;;F.B.E.
