Exrta heavy periods with a lot of clots, is it Normal?
Hi, every month since I started my period they have been very long, like 2 to 3 weeks long and not very heavy. But since October I hadn't had a period until this time. I'm going on my second week and since days ago it has been very heavy and I've been having a lot of clots. Its like I can't even move because I feel like everything is coming out. When I go to the bathroom a lot of blood comes out and a big clot. I've being using the night pads and they fill up really quick. This is the first time this happens to me. I went to the doctor last Wednesday and she precrived me Metformin to regulate my periods and she also game me ibuprofen. I know metformin is given to diabetics and I'm no diabetic. Iburpofen is and antiinflamatory, for pain. I'm just worried that I'm going to bleed out it just seem that it's never going to stop. Do you think this is normal or I need to go back to the doctor?

I would suggest you go back to the doctor and discuss your concerns with the person that prescribed the medications.

My understanding is that metformin is a new treatment, sometimes prescribed to reduce the effects of polycystic ovary syndrome. Apparently it reduces blood clotting - which is your problem.

However, your best option is to talk to the doctor and get her to fully explain the mediation, its positive effects and its side effects.

    Good luck.
