That's pretty cool. The first couple of times I did it, after moving my eyes, the color seemed to fade from the picture gradually -- which was really bizarre. :)

You can get it back to color by refocussing on the dot but its not as vivid it seems.

Here is a great site for illusions. We just used this in class last Wednesday for our sensory lecture.

I understand the illusion, but Im not convenced the color isn't actually changing to black and white as part of the animation.

EDIT: Never mind. If you keep staring at the dot, it stays color longer.
