    Breastfeeding and alcohol
I was wondering... I have a 7 month old who I am breastfeeding. I haven't had any alcohol of any kind (not that I ever drank much anyway) and my sisters want to take me out this weekend. I was wondering, now that he sleeps through the night am I able to go out and have like 4 drinks with them if I don't have to feed him for 9-10 hours later? Is it safe?

If you want to go out with your friends why not pump some milk out and let the baby drink the milk that is pre-pumped and not worry that the alcohol will hurt the baby.

You still need to pump and dump for up to 12 hours. I'm not saying it will hurt him for sure ( I have done it a time or 2) I just can't say it's OK.

I'm not a big drinker either, but I have had a couple cocktails on more than one occasion and then breastfed 6-8 hours later. My rule is 3 hours per drink. My doctor said that the alcohol has a pretty quick half life in the breastmilk so if you're legally safe to drive, you're probably OK to nurse. But frankly, I don't think I could handle an infant intoxicated so I figure anything that impairs my ability to function is probably a bad idea.
