I want to get my hair from a plum red to a dark brown but I also want to put very thin hightlights and lowlights throw how do I do this at home with out me getting an orange tone on the blone?

I had the same problem, and it took me forever to get close to what I want. Red happened to be the hardest color to keep as well as the hardest color to get rid of!
Are you going to do it professionally or at home?
You will want to dye it all brown first, and then pull your pieces through the cap and bleach the strands first, and then put the blonde color on top of that. Make sure you stay away from ashy tones or it may look green or purple, and warmer or golden will really pick up the red. Try to use a nutral or cool toned blonde.
