    W4 for H1B Visa holders
I have 2 employees working under H1-B status - how should the W4 be filled out? They both put 3 dependents, even though they are both single with no dependents - they said they read the directions and answered that "head of household" applies to them and used it to claim 3.

I don't think this is correct - single, claiming 3, I think they may owe money at the end of the year??

Please advise what standard procedure would be.

    Thank you.

They are not head of household without a qualifying dependent.

Should they be claiming more than themselves? Two or three dependents? They are both Single with zero dependents.

On W-4, they claim allowances, not dependents.

I am not aware of what you can do if employee claims too many allowances. Based on Personal Allowance Worksheet, a single status person without any dependent can claim up to 2 allowances.
