The cheapest and best way to keep your dog under control is on a leash at all times outside. You cannot just plant stuff around your yard and expect the dog to honor the plants.

Or don't let the dog out alone in the yard unless it is accompanied by you or on a leash.

That is the cheapest and easiest way to solve your problem. Leashes cost $5.

How is your dog escaping the garden?

Is he bored? Does he have anything at home to keep him from wanting to run off?

We made an extension to our fence, not to keep our dogs in but to keep the neighbours dogs out!

All we did was attach garden stakes to the top of the fence and 1-2 meter increments and then attach weed matting to the stakes.
Total cost was about $30... way cheaper than fancy fence toppers.

If your dog is going after a b!tch in heat then the only thing you have to control him is a leash. He is instinctively drawn to the smell of the b!tch, so you have to either confine him or her until she goes out of season.
