    Replacing carpet and pad?
After 17 years and 4 dogs we are replacing the carpet in 2 rooms. Originally we had upgraded the pad. Do we need to replace the pad with the carpet?

    Hi Just Dahlia
Replace pad & carpet would be my choice.Under pad isn't that expensive & should be replaced @ the same time.

    Good luck

Justy - I would definitely replace the pad if it's 17 years old. The old pad has more than likely seen better days and is now all worn out. If you've spent the dough on new carpeting do yourself a favor and get new padding. The new carpeting will have a better "feel" to it rather than reusing the old pad. At least that's what I've been told by carpet installers that I've worked with over the years. Even in newer homes when the carpeting is replaced totally new padding always goes with it.

That's what I thought also, just wanted to be sure. Hubby thinks old stuff is still good. But he also thinks the carpeting is still good.

If you have dogs replace the pad and be sure to clean the floor underneath before new padding and carpet are installed. I would spray the area with an enzyme cleaner to get rid of any odors. The vet clinics use:
BIO-PRO Research URINE-OFF Dog Stain & Odor Remover 32 oz.
