If it is a double sink, often there is a union where the two drains come together that is reduced to a half circle at the union. This is fairly easily stopped up by items not fully ground by the garbage disposal. Check that area and if it is stopped up, remove the drain pipes enough to clear it. I have often been the victim of potato peelings at my house and can almost remove these pipes blindfolded.

Is the water getting to the trap?

The problem could be further down, needing snaked, or the vent could be clogged, meaning snaking from the roof.

Labman may have hit upon it. Sounds like a blockage in the lateral,(horizontal) line in the wall. Remove the :J" bend from the trap and send a snake up into the wall. You'll hit a bend about 8 inches in, once around that put out 5 more feet of cable. Afterward, flush the line out with hot water. Good luck, Tom
