I live in a trailor park in oildale ca I have had rebel my red nose pitbull since he was 7 weeks old and the owner of the park saw him every month as he was growing up and never said anything about him now rebel is16 months old and on the day he turned 1 which was oct9th I found a female blue brindle pitbull she had been starved and beaten and hit by a car and I nursed her back to heath and now she is beautiful and happy and like I said I found her 4 months ago and the owner didn't say anything about her either now out of nowhere he sent me a letter saying get a bond or get rid of them how much will ths cost me my dogs have never hurt anyone

The only way to know the cost is to apply for insurance at an agency which carries multiple lines. In some States you cannot get insurance when pits are involved.

How much would it cost me for a liability bond for my male and female pit bulls

I think it is inappropriate to post this site - any agency IN THAT OP'S AREA - which handles multiple lines can insure her. It is most definitely not necessary to get quotes or insurance policies from companies which do the bulk of their business on line.

Any agency (again, which handles multiple lines) can recommend the best insurance at the best rate for OP. I'm an investigator - if possible, ALWAYS deal with a local agent.

For that matter I don't like to see AMHD used to advertise ANY one company.

It is one of the very FEW places I can get insurance for my pit bulls

No one locally would insure you?

I have found that State Farm (just as an example) only asks if a person has a dog or dogs, doesn't ask about breeds.

No, in my area there are breed specific laws against Pit Bulls and most insurance companies exclude them. I have to get special insurance. My regular policy specifically excludes pit bulls, and my regular policy is through AAA. But I found if the OP wants a local company he can Google and I found some insurance companies in California that insure pit bulls

Any way to the OP, since these were rescue dogs, how do you specifically know what "types" of pitbulls these are?
Pit Bull is a generic term used for the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrer and anything that resembles them.

Some people will also call their dogs red nose and blue nose pit bulls thinking they are a type of Pit. Red nose and blue nose ARE NOT a type of Pit Bull. . Red and Blue are just colors. They actually just American Pit Bull Terriers with a Red or Blue nose.
Anyway, what I was getting at was with MY insurance company, because my dogs are rescues and I do not have papers legally stating why types of dogs they are, they did not disqualify my insurance. I said they were 'muts'. I know some insurance compnays want pictures and want to see the dogs and they can basically call them what they want.
I go with an insurance broker, and they find all the insurance companies that will insure me and choose the cheapest one for me.

He has very unusual markings for a pit bull because his mother is full pit bull, (I'd have to ask my son which kind), and his father is a pit bull mixed with a dalmatian. In my state, he is designated a vicious animal simply because he is pit bull category.

Yes my most recent addition Lady is a staffy boxer mix, and she was from Ontario and was slated to be euthenized because of her breed. (BSL) sad, sad situation. :(

As Judy suggested I would call a local agent to review your options. Personally, I like dealing with local agents because it makes things easier in case they needs pictures or if they need to come personally inspect the area where the dogs are kept. To the OP, have you contacted your current insurance company that covers your home and auto? I'd start there.

Most companies are primarily interested in whether the dog has a history of bites or if it's been trained for attack purposes.

What have you done to enable you to gain some ground?

I find that here - in NY - people's minds are made up about "dangerous breeds" and nothing changes their minds.

Blue bindles are BEAUTIFUL!!

With that aside.. I know where I live people who rent aren't really aloud to own pits or any other type of bully breed...

Have your dogs already been registered with the city?

I know my friend who lives in the city registered her dogs under mixed breeds... The first dog she asked for breed ID from a vet... The vet came up with boxer mix... The other dog was ID as lab mix...

So... If you'd like to keep your dogs.. register them as a mixed breed not associated with pitties... I know its underhanded.. but it may save your dogs life.

Get people aware and ask people to get involved. Usually though we get two steps forward and one back. You can create a Facebook page for awareness in your area. Here is an example: Animal lovers AGAINST Tom Skeldon | Facebook

I didn't create that group, but I do post a lot. It helps to call local law makers and tell them what you think and what you want.

In the area I live, sometimes it is illegal to have a pit bull, sometimes it is legal, sometimes it is illegal to have more than one, sometimes you are legally allowed to have 2 or more... its crazy. The dogs are not the problem, it is the dog owner!

Also be willing to sign petitions, make sure you are a registered voter, show up for rallies, etc.

I know in Ontario, it didn't matter how many petitions were signed, the law was passed, and we can fight it all we want, but nothing matters.
Aside from assisting in the under ground railway to Nova Scotia. That is where I got my latest rescue from! I can Fight the BSL all I want but it will not make a difference. Boxers in Ontario are considered a dangerous breed. That is what my dog was classified as, and when the pound removed her from her former home she was slated to be euthanized. Lucky I heard her story and she was shipped to NS the very next day, and now is happy as a clam here in NS with me.
A woman had a black German Shepherd and was told that she has a dangerous dog, it was slated to be euthanized, she found a home last month through the URTNS.

Our local pound is one of the worst! The dog warden was rather shamed out of office recently, and we are only making very small progress. But we have made progress, and that's something!
