    Garnished wages without permission
My boss garnished my check 700.00 for damage to a roof that 3 other people worked on too. This was a surprise to me. I never gave him permission to do this

You DON'T need to give permission for a garnishment, although you should have received written notification that this was going to happen.

Was this a garnishment or was your pay docked because of damage caused while on the job? A garnishment is a legal action by court order.

It is illegal for an employer (at least in the US) to dock an employee's wages for damages or losses. It is also illegal to deduct anything from en employees pay without their permission.

The questions is what you want to do about it. If you protest or report him to the authorities you could be fired.
