I was told by a industrial plant electriction that schedule 40 was not exceptable and I must use schedule 80 pipe to my panel from the meter housing, but that does not seem to be correct for residential? I have visited many new construction projects in m,y area that all have used schedule 40 AND Home Depot guys tell me schedule 40 is standard for my application.

Also, what is the maximum distance I may run from my meter to my panel, this same friend told me that I can only travel 15 feet from lug to lug max. before I have to use a fused disconnect between my meter and the panel, this too seems to be incoreect for residential can someone clarify this?

I'm afraid you'll have to be specific about you location to get an good answer. It varies from state to state and county to county.

That said, I ran my temporary power pole with plastic nuts on sch 40 and the electric company said I needed Metal nuts. I changed it then got county to come sign off and they said I needed plastic nuts. I changed it to plastic, got them to sign off, and changed it back to metal nuts before the electric company came back out to cut on power.

Not really helpful to you, but you can see from that example that you never can tell.
