I have a ceiling fan and light kit installed with a remote. I have installed many fans and have actually installed this particular model over 10 times.

My fan and light and remote were working fine for approximately 5 months. Last week I came into the room one morning, turned on the light and 'pop' the lights blew. I changed the light bulbs and nothing seemed wrong until the other day when my wife was hot in the room and we tried to turn on the fan - no joy. The fan is completely unresponsive.

I hear the click of the remote receiver clicking when I hit the remote buttons and I have tried all combinations of speeds on the remote and different pulls on the fan pull chain. No response from the fan.

The bulbs seemed to have gone out early and dramatically so I don't think it was general wear and tear (and they both popped at the same time) so I think something spiked and popped them, possibly doing something else that's fubarring my fan.

I live in an apartment but these are my own fans and light kits that I replaced the apartments cheap fans with so I can't quite call maintenance, unless I find it's a problem with the box in the ceiling or wiring in the wall.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this, or should I just buy a new fan?

Open the canopy and use a tester to check for 120 v getting to the receiver. Now check for 120 between the white and black coming out of receiver, that is for the fan. Check again for 120 coming from the blue and the white, that's your light. Also, press and hold the fan button for at least 10 seconds, any joy yet. Tell us the results of your tests

No joy on the 10 second thing. Tried it first, pulled the fan chain and tried it again.

I don't have a voltage tester so it will be a few days till I can get a hold of one, but I will post when I do.

If the fan has pullchains, open the fan at the ceiling, remove the receiver, wire the fan without it.
