This happened 2 years ago. Our kitchen sink just all of a sudden won't drain. We used liquid lye but first snaked as far as we could go about 8 ft. from the wall. And nothing happened . Now the lye has done nothing either it is still backed up. What could it be and how can we stop this from happening every 2 years?

Does your trap go into the wall or into the floor?

You snaked the drain arm inside the wall but did you snake the roof vent?
This could be a clog farther on down the line.

As a repair plumber I have never recommended using harsh chemicals. In your drainage system. Besides they only seem to work in TV commercials and when you try to remove the water you could burn your hands or damage your eyes so be very careful if you open a pipe up. The lye could blind you if it got in your eyes. Good luck, tom

Thank you for helping. We have about 14" of snow on our roof right now but will snake the roof line as soon as we can get up there. I hope it works.I will let you know, again thank you.

have you ever heard or used something called a "drain king"? I am just wondering if that might work. And if so how could I get the lye out of my pipe to use something like that? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Does your sink hold water and never, ever drain or does it just take hours to drain?

It's holding water now and not draining at all. Yesterday it was draining very very slowly but still not draining all the way. This morning I got up and it had backed up on its own about 1/4 full in each of my double kitchen sinks

"backed up on its own " this tells us the actual clog is pretty far down past where the sink drain and other fixtures all come together. The backing up on its own is actually sewage from another fixture like a sink, toilet, shower, etc... Do you have a main clean out in the basement?

I'm sorry my son said he actually had put water into it last night and that it actually had drained a small amount.my mistake it didn't back up. Just won't drain. The dishwasher was actually running when it stopped draining this time . I don't have a basement, I live in a rancher.

Drain King or Clog Busters only work until they run into a vent. Purtting one down a roof vent won't clear a clog downstream of the sinks drain line inside the wall. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and safety goggles and dip the water out of the sink and then drain the trap. Good luck, Tom
