A friend of ours has recently received Probation and been put on an Alch tether in Michigan while in the middle of a move to Kansas. He and his family have plans to move in and rent 2 of our extra rooms since he can not find employment in the area of Michigan he currently is in. We have found him a job and he will have a stable location in which he and his family will be living.

Now the problem is he has filled out the paper work to transfer from Michigan to Kansas. He was told it would be 45days for an answer. We are at the end of that time and being told that it can now take up to 120days and there can be no inquires about the status.

So far we have received a call from someone. (not sure what state it was) asking if he does have a place to live here and which we verified that and we know that the place of employment here has been verified as well. (Our best friend is the manager there). So that information has been verified.

The place that he is living at in Michigan is temporary. He is staying with a step father and his wife and children are being forced to stay with her family. Both of their families just want them out of their houses and they will soon be finding themselves with no where to go. Now here in Kansas they have a place to come and he can start on his tether and a new job and get life going back to some kind of normal. Is there anything that can be done to move this process a bit faster? Their time is running out.

Have you spoken to his PO? Or the PO's supervisor. The only other possibility I can think of is to appeal to the judge that sentenced him.

It's awfully easy for a bureaucrat in the justice system to believe that he's doing a favor for a convict, rather than just following procedures. Hence, the don't call us, we'll call you routine. And, by the same token, it's awfully easy for a convict to lower his eyes, and shuffle his feet, and beg and plead, because he thinks he's asking for a favor.

Neither are true.

The key, isn't who's asking or who's doing a favor. The key is, does the convict meet the criteria for transfer. If he does, and it sounds like you've done your homework, then you don't need to listen to the admonishment of not to call. There's no rule in their procedures manual that say's you can't call them. I haven't read that particular one, but I promise you, it's not in there.

As a matter of fact, you need to treat this/these bureaucrats exactly like any other bureaucrat you run into, who think they're doing you a favor when they give you what you're entitled to. Of course, you must be polite. But, you certainly can inquire.

If it were me, I would be inquiring regularly and politely. And, if someone called me, I'd certainly know who they were.
