    Air bag light stays on
Can the airbag be disconnected on a 97 dodge dakota? Light stays on and dealer wants $150 just to look at it, then repair it. Could wind up costing more than the old truck is worth

It is an intrigual part of the built in SRS. If you attempt to fix it yourself it could go off in your face causing injury. Send it to a qualified service facility and pay to have it fixed properly. As it stands now, your air bag system is probably inoperative and in the event of an accident could not deploy.

Or ignore it. Just don't transport any passengers. If you get into an accident and the airbags don't deploy (which they won't since the system is shut down), the passenger's lawyer will go after you for negligence. The airbag computer keeps track of how many times you've driven the vehicle with the airbag light on--so you can't say "it just happened."
