Is now a good time to start a career in real estate?
I was laid off last June from a motorcycle dealership as a salesman. Have family in real estate doing very well, but I need some unbiased opinions. Im 40 years old, love people and seeing them realize their dreams. Again,I'm 40 years old with two little girls 3 & 6 yrs old and don't know how many times I can start over working my way to the top from zero.

You can always do good, there are tons of homes selling in foreclosure and short sales, the commssion is a lot smaller but it is money.

There are homes being sold every day.

With that said, today, as 10 years ago, there are 1000's and 1000's of real estate agent, most brokers have two or three times the numbers they need, but keep them since it does not cost to have them.

You will have to pay your license fees, and each month pay the broker a fee for your MLS service, and often for desk space. So if you don't sell something, you will end up paying the broker to work there.

Some make money just finding listings, since the listing agent makes a little. They look for homes on MLS getting ready to go off contract with another broker and they go out that next day to sign them up with them.

And helping them with a "dream" is something, but at the end of the day it is getting them to buy properties you are selling and hopefully some you are the listing and selling agent for.
