What can happen if the sequencer fails on my electric furnace?
My electric furnace sometimes wants to keep heating without ever shutting off. Changed the thermostat but, it still happens. I can tap briskly on the sequencer and it will shut off, and it will run as it is supposed to. But, then it can happen again. Is this probably a problem with the sequencer?

What can happen if the sequencer fails on my electric furnace?
My electric furnace will keep heating without shutting off. I changed out the thermostat but, I still have the same problem. I can tap briskly on the sequencer and it will shut off and continue it operate correctly for several days and then it will do the same thing again. It seems that the sequencer may be sticking. Has anyone else had this problem?

Common problem. IF tapping on the sequencer shuts unit off, then you need to replace it. Make sure to get the correct one, and wire it correctly. Then you should be all set. Good luck.

    (The below is nothing personal.)

    Please:

    1: Post back the "fix"...
2: Post /Edit your original post with the Mfg/Model # of unit...
3: Post HOW OLD THE UNIT is...
    And

4: Post the part number of the part which fixed the unit.

Such info is helpful to those who are running a search later on.
    (Having the same problem)

PS: When posting on the net, it's also helpful to include the model number of product in the THREAD TITLE.

    This:

A: Increases the chance of someone who works on xyz product "seeing" your post.

B: Shows you "respect" other peoples "time".

C: Helps those who may be having the same problem.

PS#2: The above is a time saver for all concerned, It is also self-serving over the long run...

(EG: The more people that post in such a manner increases the chance of the "searcher" finding the info they need.)

BTW: Tapping briskly on the sequencer to get the unit working again indicates:
    Bad connection /High resistance.
    Relay going bad
Cold Solder connection. Most electronics these days are 'Wave-Soldered". Components (Large and Small) are inserted into the motherboard, with the board traveling suspended across a vat of molten solder. Solder is wicked up, and everything gets soldered at once.

It's a fast way to solder, but creates "Cold-Solder joints" that over time fail.

(The problem is the temp/soak time of the solder has to be keep LOW so as to not fry the SMALL components on the board, because of such the LARGE components on the board are prone to Cold-Solder-Joints".

Item will most of the time make it thru the warranty period to fail later on. As item is used, components on board "heat-up", items that cycle on and off expand and contract which destroys the solder joint.)

Fix? Re-Flow the solder joints on large items that carry a bunch of current.

Thanks for the info!. I changed out the sequencer and everything is working fine now. I will be sure to put all of the info in from now on. I don't have that info at this time. Thanks again.

Where is sequencer located? I have a Coleman Central Electric Furnace Model # 3400A820 sometimes it heats up and kicks the blower on but sometimes it just heats up and does not turn the blower on. I can turn on the manual switch and operate the blower without any problem and I switched out the thermostat. I am now out of ideas 70,000 BTU 19.2 Amps 80 Element
