How long should a furnace run when turning up the heat
I have an oil furnace, with hot water radiators. How long should the furnace run when turning up the heat? Mine runs in appprox. 2 minute cycles. It also doesn't always turn off when reaching temperature set on thermostat. The thermostat is in a location away from windows and radiators.

If you have a hot water boiler it is probably controlled by an aquastat which causes the boiler to cycle on and off every so often. The thermostat only controls the water pump to supply the heat out of the boiler. For oil a 2 minute run time is ok but the time will get shorted or longer depending upon how cold it is outside and how much heat you need inside. Situation sounds normal from what you said.
