I have a GE Profile Harmony electric dryer that is not working correctly since moving into a new house. Basically, it will work for a couple of loads, then will no longer get hot or blow air out of the vent. I have checked that the 220 is still working when it stops heating so that is not the problem. Does anyone have any other ideas of why it would stop blowing air out the vent as well as stop heating?

If your blower stops working, the element will overheat and trip the high limit, that's is why you have no heat.

The trick is to find out why the blower isn't working. It should be found under the dryer. Its possible that there may be a loose wire. It could be getting ready to go out. I would run the blower motor, observe it when it stops, then take a voltage reading. If voltage is presnet at the blower motor, and the motor isn't working, then the motor needs to be replaced. If voltage is not present, then we must determine why.

I just had this same problem... found out that the blower motor was bad, but not so bad that it would register on the technician's equipment when the dryer was cold. I made sure that I did at least 2 loads in the dryer to show the technician what it was doing. He initially tried to say that my vent was clogged (they all say that, but it never is... for pete's sake! Don't you think the other 5 technicians and I checked that?! ). I finally got the technician to pull the dryer apart and test the blower. He spent about an hour on the phone with the tech center verifying the blower was bad. The blower resembles a blower fan motor in a car so it isn't too hard to replace once you get to it (that's the bad part). It is located in the bottom front, left hand side of the dryer just below the lint filter. The tech had to take off the top of the dryer to open the front panel, then remove the drum to get access. Bottom line: make them check the blower motor. Don't waste the service call by letting them tell you that your vent was clogged. If that was the case, you would have trouble drying the first load too. Good Luck!
