Couled some one tell me if someone claimed my son on there taxes. {name deleted}

First, why would you want your son's name posted on a public website?

Second, we are not the IRS so we wouldn't know. Why so you think someone might have? Why not just file your return?

I have the same issue. I was told to go to the Federal Building here in Dallas, and file the paperwork for the IRS to research. I don't know where you may be but the Federal Building is like our local tax office. They file direct returns with the IRS. So where ever you live find out who files taxes direct with the IRS and they will have the paperwork to start the procedure. From what I understand you would need to provide proof that you provide all or half of the support of the dependent because whoever has claimed them will be served court papers. If found guilty of fraud they are to owe and be penalized in the coming years. Sorry my details are not in legal terms. I just know how hard it is to get answers in this area. Thought I could offer some basic knowledge to just give you a place to start.

Thanks for posting your experience. Directly submitting your return through an IRS office is not a bad idea, but not necessary.

This issue has been brought up many times and there are many threads about it.

This issue has come about with e-File. When you try to e-file, the IRS checks all the listed SS #s on the return. If it finds one that has already been filed it rejects the return for e-Filing only. The taxpayer can still submit their return through the mail and should include documentation of their right to claim the dependent. The IRS will then investigate and sort it out.
