Filing taxes with no job, and not attending school
I just want to know how it is possible for an 18 year old mother to file taxes with no job, she is not going to school, and she wants to claim her child. Can someone please tell me how that works? She is getting state funding for her apartment, money for her utilities and gets shut-off notices, and she has a bridge card. She refuses child support because then she will have to pay rent. Why do us hard-working tax payers have to help her get more money for sitting on her a--? HELP...

Simple... as an adult (or a minor if you actually work as one) you are supposed to file taxes... you have to list all incomes... and those subsidies are actually income, and should be filed. It would not be a nice situation to be in when she gets caught not filing. And she will eventually, the Government knows who gets what... and the IRS can easily find out who didn't file.

Remember all that withholding and financial information has electronic paper trails that are transmitted to the IRS. Odd, but all those documents you get from the Banks, employers etc... have already been sent to the IRS as well. Ergo... they don't really disappear if you chuck them in the fireplace for example.

Its not as easy for someone not on the dole and with no assets who never worked to be caught.

Even if they are sitting at home with their parents and have zero income, they are supposed to file.

While I might wholeheartedly agree with your last statement, that is best discussed on a separate forum other than the Taxes forum.

If you do not have any income, you do not get any tax credit.
