My daughter is 16 and has a son of 7mo. She has moved out with him and her boyfriend, (not the baby's daddy) which is 18 and will be going to prision for 8 yrs. She has let me have my grandson 1 time in 5wks. She takes him down to the other grandparents often. Well the reason being is I went to file child support and find out if this other boy is the father and she didn't want that.For all we know they might not even be the grandparents.Neither one of these people work nor does the so called baby's daddy. I have 2 jobs.so I could give my grandson what he needs. I guess in Michigan, if the mother gives the baby to a stranger there is nothing I can do, although I am the legal grandparent. This is just not right in my eyes. Poor baby Kaiden.

Your daughter is still a minor child. She is NOT emancipated because she had a baby. You are still responsible for her. The only space she has for making decisions is for her baby. The father needs to be found and held responsible. Was she under 16 when she got pregnant ?

She was 15. And I know I am resonsible for her but there is not too much I can do. I can't make her live at home and I can't make her find out who the father is either. She has to sign the consent form for that. It's not like I haven't been to court on this.

Call the cops and report her as a runaway, if you have custody of her.

The ONLY decisions she is allowed to make as an adult at 17 are those concerning her child. So... as long as she is not putting the child in danger, she can allow the child to visit anyone she likes. You can't collect child support for her son--but you'd better BELIEVE that the state will as soon as she files for state aid.

For one thing she is 16 not 17.Have you ever tried to make a child live at home? Guess not. She is very abusive, verable and physical. I have reported her as a run away. They found her and said I will have to go to probate court and that doesn't happen over night. And she does have WIC for the baby and your wrong about the state, they just gave it to her. And for my grandson, this is not visitation she gives him to these people for a week or weeks at a time. And her decision about the baby she is not making either. Shots are behind and he needs to be circumsized.

Chances are if she is being abusive, then she will do the same with the child. If she is leaving the child with others for "weeks at a time " then something is really wrong with this picture. Do you know who she drops the child with ? The shots may be important but there is no medical proof that a male child " needs to be circumsized ". In many countries they don't do that and people live long happy lives. Its more a personal then professional decision.

That may be true, but there is no requirement that a child be circumsized. So don't bring up issues that the court has no concern with.

No state is going to give welfare payments without trying to get reimbursed by the father for support. You may not be aware of what happened but that is the facts. If you think she is defrauding the welfare system, report it. They may take the child away at which point you can ask for custody.

Nope, never tried to make a 16 year old live at home.

When I was 16, I WANTED to live at home. Free food, free rent, free talks with my parents--life was good.

Frankly, while I realize there are exceptions to the rule, I think that any parent that can't control their teenager was too lenient when the child was younger, but that's neither here nor there.

If you think she's a danger to the child, then call CPS and report her. Since you're technically responsible for your daughter's welfare, you may be calling attention to the fact that you can't control your OWN child, so why give you custody of ANOTHER child that you won't be able to control?

You don't KNOW that the "other grandparents" aren't biologically related. You WON'T know until a DNA test is done.

And believe you me, the state WILL try to find the father, or will go after the father named on the birth certificate, for reimbursement of ANY use of the welfare system. Child support will then be paid to the STATE, not to your daughter.

Bottom line is this: If you want custody of your grandson, you're going to have to prove that your daughter is an unfit parent. In order to do that, you need a lawyer.
