Dirty water from well with rain runoff
After a heavy rain the water in the house has a dirty tint to it but does not smell. This change in color only happens when we have a heavy rain. Could this water be contaminated and not safe to use. Can you run the water for a period for the dirty water to clear this out? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from continuing? Also I have a pressure pump that is also leaking around the pressure switch where the wiring hookups are only when we get a heavy rain. It seems that the bladder in the pump is not holding water correctly, but why would it leak where the connections are?

It would seem your pump is above ground. Where is it located... basement, pump house?

The pressure pump is located in my basement. This is the second time that this has happened. The pressure switch is actually leaking where the nipple ties into the switch. The only thing that I can think of is that the bladder is not holding the pressure, but why would it allow water to enter if no water is being used in the house.

Replace the switch and the little pipe leading to it... twenty five bucks or so. I doubt that it has anything to do with your pressure tank.

The dirty water is a different matter. It is possible that your well casing has rusted through and leaks surface water during a heavy rain. Possibly water pools and overflows the wellhead. Hard to say.
